Uganda recently signed the IGAD Protocol on Free Movement of Persons. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Jeje Odongo, emphasized that free movement is essential for regional collaboration.
The protocol aims to enhance labor mobility and trade within the IGAD region, benefiting rural governance and access to services. IGAD’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, highlighted the protocol’s role in promoting regional development. The EU’s Deputy Head of Delegation, Mr. Guillaume Chartrain, praised Uganda’s commitment, noting that five IGAD countries have now signed the protocol: Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Uganda.
