Day 1: Depart to Kasese – Rwenzori Mountains National Park
Day 2: Transfer to Nyakalengija for briefing – hike to Nyabitaba hut
Day 3: Hike from Nyabitaba to John Matte Hut
Day 4: Leave John Matte Hut for Bujuku Hut
Day 5: Hike from Bujuku Hut to the Elena Hut
Day 6: Hike from Elena Hut to Mount Stanley
Day 7: Take a hike from Kitandara Hutt to Guy Yeoman Hut
Day 8: Descend from the Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Hut
Day 9: Descend back to Nyakalengija-drive back to Kampala
DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1: Depart to Kasese – Rwenzori Mountains National Park
After Breakfast, pick up by your Driver Guide and driving through Masaka to Mbarara. Have a stop over at the Equator for a photo opportunity, & a chance to purchase some souvenirs & handicrafts. Also visit the Royal drum makers before driving to Kasese to connect to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Scenic landscapes, tea plantations and the Rwenzori Mountain ranges are seen enroute. Transfer to your accommodation in Kasese (FB)
Day 2: Transfer to Nyakalengija – Hike to Nyabitaba hut
Report to the Rwenzori Mountaineering Service (RMS) offices at Nyakalengija for briefing, hiking tools packing. as well as guide allocation & porters to help you carry heavy luggage.
Begin your 5-7 hours exploration through a trail connecting up to Nyabitaba Hut. This trail takes you via the scenic Mubuku River. Spend 2 hours to connect to Makoma River and this involves hiking through steep slopes and exploring sloppy sites around the forest. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyabitaba Hut about 2652m.
Day 3: Hike from Nyabitaba to John Matte Hut
After breakfast, start your 7 hours’ hike to the John Matte Hut which is at 3414m. Hike via River Bujuku and Mubuku close to steep and slippery areas. Proceed to the John Matte Hut for dinner and a night stay.
Day 4: Leave John Matte Hut for Bujuku Hut
This day, connect to Bujuku Hut (3972m), approximately 3-5 hours. Your hike involves crossing River Bujuku to Lake Bujuku and proceed by trail to Bujuku Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Hike from Bujuku Hut to the Elena Hut
Depart Bujuku Hut and hike through the dense vegetation around Mount Baker and Stanley. Proceed to Elena Hut at 4430 meters above sea level.
Day 6: Hike from Elena Hut to Mount Stanley
Hike to the Elena glacier and later, proceed up to the Stanley Plateau. Continue to Margherita glacier and get to the summit. Spend some time enjoying the scenery of the margherita peak and surrounding areas. After photography and exploration, descend to the Elena Hut via Kitandara Lake. Continue to Mount Baker/Mount Luigi di Savoia and later, get to Kitandara Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Take a hike from Kitandara Hutt to Guy Yeoman Hut
After breakfast, depart for Mount Stanley and Baker glaciers, with hiking through muddy trails and rock shelters. Continue to Guy Yeoman Hut which is surrounded by magical sceneries, breathtaking landscape ranging from mountains, rivers to lush vegetation. Dinner and overnight stay at the Guy Yeoman Hut at 3261m.
Day 8: Descend from the Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Hut
Today, descend to Nyabitaba Hut. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 9: Descend back to Nyakalengija-drive back to Kampala
After breakfast, take 2 hours descending to a point you started your hike. you will have the opportunity to view primates, and an array of birds. Arrive and meet your driver guide for a return trip to Kampala / Entebbe.
