The third edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, scheduled for August 24, 2024, has unveiled an enhanced prize structure for the 42km and 21km races. Previous winners in the 42km category received UGX 8 million each; this year, winners will earn UGX 10 million, with additional prizes for the top six finishers. The 21km race winners will receive UGX 7 million, with cash awards for the top five.
Sponsorship from Standard Chartered totals UGX 140 million, also recognizing local talent and participants with disabilities. The bank’s CEO, Sanjay Rughani, expressed commitment to the marathon’s long-term impact on fitness and sustainable development.
Last year’s male and female 42km winners were Vitalis Kwemoi and Viola Chemos, respectively.
