Uganda Airlines is set to begin direct flights to London, according to the Uganda High Commission in London.
The airline’s CEO, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, recently met with UK aviation authorities and the business community to prepare for the launch, which is expected to take place soon. The airline secured slots for departures and landing at London Heathrow Airport in December 2020 and February 2021, but has not made any trips to the UK yet. The delay was reportedly caused by a lack of an updated certification status.
The expansion of the Airline’s routes will boost tourism in Uganda by promoting and enhancing travel.
The move comes after Uganda Airlines launched direct flights to Asia and West Africa, and will make it the airline’s first destination in Europe.
Uganda Airlines also launched direct flights to Lagos, Nigeria, and currently operates flights to Nairobi, Juba, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Bujumbura, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, Mogadishu, Kinshasa, Lagos, Johannesburg, Dubai and Mumbai.
