6 days Uganda Primates safari:

The safari covers Uganda’s primate species-Mountain gorillas, Chimpanzees and Golden monkeys.  Other primate species also include the grey-cheeked mangabeys, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and L’Hoest monkeys among others.

BRIEF ITINERARY:
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking OR Gorilla Habituation Experience / optional: Batwa village visit
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking OR Chimpanzee Habituation Experience
Day 6: Return to Kampala or Entebbe / Departure.

DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Pick up from your residence / Hotel (Uganda OR Rwanda) and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south-western Uganda.
– Drive time from Kampala Uganda to Bwindi National park  (+/- 9-11hrs)
– Drive time from Kigali Rwanda to Bwindi National park  (+/- 4hrs)
– Flight time from Entebbe Uganda to Bwindi National park  (07h45/08h55) – Timings are subject to change.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience OR Gorilla Habituation Experience  / Optional: Batwa visit
After breakfast, report to the park headquarters for briefing and then depart for your Gorilla trekking experience OR Habituation experience

*GORILLA TREKKING:
The gorilla trek can take anything from few minutes to several hours depending on where they nested the previous night. Gorillas are amazing creatures, with so much energy yet gentle therefore commonly known as the gentle giants of Bwindi. Once you locate the gorillas with help of your guide and trackers, you are allowed to stay with them for only one hour – take pictures and learn more about their habits.
Gorilla Trekking is unpredictable, and physical fitness is required for this adventure.
After trekking, return to the lodge.(FB)

OR:

*GORILLA HABITUATION EXPERIENCE:
The experience ensures you take a more active role in the protection and understanding of these gentle giants, as you join rangers  and conservationists in the habituation process. This process gives insight into the lives of the Gorillas, & helps you understand Gorilla behaviors & social dynamics. After finding them, spend 4hrs with the gorillas. – This is a full day Experience and physical fitness is needed.

*Optional: Batwa visit:
If time allows, take an evening walk to the Batwa community to enjoy cultural & music performances as well as ancient culture demonstrations. Later, return to your lodge.(FB)

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking
Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Hq for briefing, before starting your Golden monkey tracking. The habituated golden monkeys are found within the Bamboo forests of the Virunga’s, and trekkers are allowed only 1 hr. with the monkeys once located. After the trek, Return to your Lodge.(FB)

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Transfer to Kisoro Airstrip for your flight to Kasese Airstrip. Your driver guide will then pick you up, and transfer you to Kibale National park.

Later, visit Bigodi Wetland for a guided nature walk with mammals like Sitatunga & Duikers, primates & birds including the Great Blue Turaco. The walk will also take you through the local homesteads.
After, return to your lodge (FB)

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking OR Chimpanzee Habituation
Transfer to park HQ for a pre tracking briefing before you start your trek in search of the Chimpanzees. The forest is also home to other primate species including grey-cheeked mangabeys, L’Hoest monkeys, red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, bushbabies, black and white colobus monkeys,  birds as well as flora & fauna.

*CHIMPANZEE TRACKING:
– Depart in search of the chimpanzee groups, and when found, spend 1 hour with the chimpanzees in their natural habitat as they feed, play, take care of their young and groom.

OR:

*CHIMPANZEE HABITUATION:
– The habituation experience offers a chance to spend full day with the chimpanzees, getting close enough to identify individuals by their dynamics and markings. Joining the habituation team, the trek is more challenging as the non habituated groups live deeper in the forest of Kibale. Experience the chimpanzee when they first get up, feeding, caring for the young, hunting, resting, until they make nests to go to bed.
After, return to your lodge (FB)

Day 6: Return to Kampala or Entebbe / Departure
Transfer to Kampala or Entebbe to your residence OR to Airport for your connecting flight back home. (Breakfast only)
