The 2025 International Museum Day, to be celebrated on May 18 in Kabale Municipality has been launched by the Uganda’s Ministry of Tourism with month-long activities. The theme, “Preserving Heritage, Transforming Communities,” emphasizes the role of museums in cultural preservation and sustainable development.
State Minister Martin Mugarra highlighted museums’ importance in education, economic growth, and peacebuilding, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Government plans to expand museums to diversify tourism and empower communities.
Events include a cultural heritage conference (May 6), museum fair (May 12–14), school competitions (May 15–16), and a main celebration with performances in Kabale on May 18.
